Sad. My former love - Mr. Jeep Wrangler having fun in a sandpit up North - Nick was with me and we actually got stuck… I was worried like always and Nick says, “There is nowhere else I would rather be in the world then stuck in a sandpit right now…” What a nut. RIP Mr. Jeep.

Last April my sister Claire created an event for Red Bull called Get It On Record (watch the recap video under my Video link at the top of my blog). The basic concept was to have 10 teams of 3 University of Minnesota arts students – a graphic designer, a photographer, and a filmmaker - work together to market a client – a professional brake dancer. And the best marketing package would win – new Apple computers.

This whole event kicked ass. All the dancers got amazing marketing packages out of it and all the student designers got great portfolio pieces. Plus the whole thing was a ton of fun. On a personal note, I’m really proud of my sister for being so creative and dedicated to make this event happen. She was only 20 at the time and going to school and work full time while working on this project… She is going to own the fucking zone at whatever she wants when she graduates next year. I just hope she lets me move into her basement someday when she has a fatty house and I’m still a broke ass photographer. Love you lil’sis.

Last March I shot music video stills for the band Limbeck – the song was called - Big Drag and received some good play on places such as MTV (craptastic we don’t play music videos anymore…) and youtube. The video was produced by my bro Shane Nelson (check out his stuff… he is the top dog in the mid-west for music video production) and directed by local star of Motion City Soundtrack - Justin Pierre (Haha, just kidding Justin…).

This whole shoot was totally chill and the guys were great. It’s really nice to work with bands who are able to really put out the type of music they want, tour hard, and make it in the failing music game. I’m sure none of them are rich, but that’s not the point – these guys are making it happen doing what they love. And they sound good doing it too! Limbeck or Lim-pimps? Wait that doesn’t look right…

SXSW - 2007 - What a blast. I went down on a whim… not sure what else I had going on, but I def. skipped out on something. Anyway, here is a shot of Har Mar Superstar, Joe Purdy, Pete Townshend, Ghostland Observatory, Mohair, The Pipettes, The Fratellis, Cold War Kids, the Filter day party crowd, Steve and I 4-6-ish Lone Stars in (look at Steve’s eye), the Spiderhouse, a Gallery Lombardi art opening, a super dope drawing, somewhere along the way to TX, and Jesus forgiving my SXSW sins.

In all I shot the following bands during SXSW 2007:

Rosie Thomas, Scanners, Willowz, Har Mar Superstar, Stars of Track and Field, Martha, Wainwright, Art In Manila, Land of Talk, Rachel Fuller, Pete Townshend, Joe Purdy, Elvis Perkins, Cold War Kids, Architecture In Helsinki, Ghostland Observatory, What Made Milwaukee Famous, The Fratellis, Mew, Mando Diao, The Pipettes, Kate Havnevik, Mohair, and Youth Group. You can view more of my SXSW photos on my flickr page here.

It’s also worth noting I stayed at my good friend Natalie’s house, which at the time was as the Austin based recording studio The Still. The band Youth Group was recording a movie soundtrack there while we were staying there. Beyond this I’ve got plenty of good stories about my trip – but not ones that grandma should read about on a blog – so lets just leave it to that I had a good time.

Last winter I helped out a location stock photographer named Ron Chapple. His is one of biggest in the business. In this shoot he actually used my dad and step mom for an ‘ice fishing’ theme…. And of course my dad actually has all the gear and is a total ice fishing nerd - the main reason why they were picked. Go MN! If it looks cold in these photos… that would be because it was…

Ya, My Grandma Longboards

dsc_8505blog.jpg

dsc_8517blog.jpg

So, for Christmas a few years ago my dad and I made some custom longboards for my sister as her Christmas present. We made a bunch and now my sister and I are all about it (when it’s not crap winter out). And when we were down at my grandma and grandpa’s house last Easter my sister busted out her boards and the whole family took a ride including my grandma!! Because she rocks!

U of M Golf Team

Last year I was also hired by the University of Minnesota Golf Team to shoot some product stuff for their website a few times. Here’s a hat. Ya, I know I’m the best photographer ever.

Family Fun!

dsc_7286editblog.jpg

This is a photo of my step dad’s side of the family. I have a super duper huge family if you count all four sides since both my parents are remarried. We were down at my grandparents farm celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. Dude, if I even live to 50 that would be nice…. but 63 years married holy crap!!

Steve’s Bird

I stayed at my best bro’s house in Denver last year on our way down to SXSW - here is a shot of his bird. Why you ask? I dare say, why not?
