Location Scouting on Valentines Day

dsc_2681blog.jpg

Last year on Valentine’s Day I went location scouting for Ron Chapple - the biggest stock photographer in the county. Meaning - he submits more images to stock agencies then anyone else. He also has a staff of 15 full time people, has a dope house in Hawaii, a studio on the east coast, shoots with more than one $50,000 camera, and is a totally nice guy. It was really cool getting to ask him questions about how he built his business. He basically said he laid it all on the line about 15 years ago when he mortgaged his house, took all the money out of his retirement fund, and his kids colleges funds to get together about 2 million bucks to invest in a business model that was structured for stock shooting – he said it took him 7 years to make his money back. But – he seemed to be doing very well for himself as of 2007 – producing thousands of salable images a year… This is Krista – his producer - she was cool too – we got to know each other very well on our location scouting day. Being a producer for a photographer would be a radtastic job because you get to be very creative in helping figure out how to pull off some interesting stuff.
